Cobb Pinot Noir Diane Cobb: Coastlands Vineyard 2009 750ml
750ml: $80.00
Magnum: $175.00
The Vineyard
When David and Diane Cobb planted Coastlands in 1989, there were very few varieties of Pinot Noir that had been proven capable of thriving on the far Sonoma Coast. Working with UC Davis, Diane established a nursery block at Coastlands that contained over 20 relatively unknown Pinot Noir varieties. In 1996, she doubled that block with a single variety that she thought was especially flavorful. The “Diane Cobb” designate is made as a co-fermentation of the most successful selections of Pinot Noir from the deep loam soils of the 1.5 acre block Diane cultivated. It is always an extremely nuanced and layered wine, notable for its excellent mid-palate and structure. While the 2009 vintage has yet to be reviewed, this wine has a track record for excellence with the past three vintages all earning 93 points from Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar.
Tasting Notes
Ross Cobb’s winemaker notes: "The 2009 vintage is beautifully aromatic, with layers of black cherry, raspberry and plum, as well as secondary aromas of chocolate, rose, white pepper, leather and clove. The acidity is crisp, and the mouthfeel is persistent, with a long finish that is full of fine tannins."
